All-attosecond pump-probe spectroscopy

Since the first demonstration of attosecond pulses in 2001, a key objective has been the ability to perform attosecond-pump attosecond-probe spectroscopy. I will report on a recent breakthrough in our laboratory that allows us to perform all-attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (AATAS). AATAS combines an extremely high temporal resolution in both the pump and the probe steps with an excellent spectral resolution, making it an ideal tool to investigate the dynamics of electrons on their natural timescales. In the first part of the talk I will introduce the concepts that allowed us to implement attosecond-pump attosecond-probe spectroscopy in a robust and reliable way. I will then show the first AATAS results that we obtained in atoms, molecules and solids. Finally, I will outline a few ideas on future directions.
